The questions your runway answers

In years and dollars, from your own figures, not an average household’s.

When can I buy an investment property?

The first year the deposit, stamp duty and costs are there, and the plan still pays its way after.

When can I retire?

The first year your investments reach 25 times a year’s spending. The multiple is yours to change.

How long will my money last?

Every year to the end of the plan, and the year it runs short if it does, with how much.

What will the purchase cost up front?

Deposit, stamp duty, fees and lenders mortgage insurance, itemised, and the cash left after settlement.

Pay down the loan, or put it in super?

Two versions of your plan that differ only in where spare cash goes, side by side on one chart.

When will the mortgage be gone?

The year the balance reaches zero, with the offset and extra repayments your rules send it.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell it what you have

Income, savings, super, property and loans. Quick setup asks a few questions, or describe it in your own words. Anything it can guess, it fills in and says so.

  2. 2

    Say what you want

A home in 2031, retiring at 60, or as soon as it’s affordable. Then your rule for spare cash: the offset first, then super, then shares.

  3. 3

    See every year

One chart of where you stand each year. Open any year for its tax, its cash flow and what changed. Change a figure and the answer moves.

Real rules, real rates

No rules of thumb and no flat percentages. A projection that leaves out $45,000 of stamp duty isn’t worth running.

Runway calculates each year’s tax, levies and duty the way the ATO and your state revenue office do, from the published brackets and thresholds. Every rate is taken from its official source, dated, and updated each July.

  • Income tax and the Medicare levy
  • Medicare levy surcharge
  • Super caps and preservation age
  • The CGT discount
  • Stamp duty and land tax, by state
  • HELP repayments
  • The Age Pension

Simple first, detail when you want it

Built for people who find money overwhelming. You see the answer before the workings; every default is shown and yours to change, one click deeper.

  • Sensible defaults instead of forty questions
  • A plain answer in a sentence, with the year and your age then
  • Every year opens to the figures behind it
  • Today’s dollars by default, so the numbers feel real

From people planning with Runway

“I love that it takes Aussie tax and rules into consideration.”
“Financial forecasting is quite overwhelming for me, but this made it quite simple.”
“The fact that I can see where I’m heading financially is quite powerful.”

Questions

Is this financial advice?

No. Runway is a calculator: it applies the tax and super rules to the figures you give it and shows what happens. It never recommends a product or tells you what to do. Check the figures, and speak to a licensed adviser before acting on them.

Do I have to connect my bank?

No. Runway looks forward, not back, so there are no bank feeds and no transactions to sort. You type the balances and amounts that matter, once.

Does it work for a couple?

Yes. A plan is one or two people, each with their own income, super and tax.

Where is my plan kept?

In your account, stored in Australia (Sydney). It opens the same on any device you sign in on.

What happens if I stop paying for Plus?

Your plan stays, and stays yours to edit. The Plus features lock until you come back.
